Fly Casting

As you may or may not know, casting a fly rod takes practice. We take pride in helping members with basic and advanced skills. Before every monthly meeting, members gather out in the grass for some casting practice and tips from fellow members. The Orvis Company provides many casting videos for novice to expert level casters. Here is a great video from Orvis with the Man Pete Kutzer on basic fly casting

Club Sponsored Casting Clinics

In conjunction with another area fly club, SFF hosts FFI casting clinics twice a year. These clinics are free to all FFI members. The clinics are also open to the general public for a fee of $35, which includes a 1 year membership to FFI. The clinics are run by FFI Master Certified Instructors. All skill levels are welcome and will be shown different tips and tricks for improving their casts. Keep an eye on our event calendar for upcoming casting clinics!

Big Gun Shoot Out

Many SFF Members Compete!

Each year in the fall, SFF participates in a competition known as the “Big Gun Shoot Out” for fly fishermen and women from all over Florida put on by our neighbor the Tampa Bay Fly Fishing Club. It’s a fun day of casting and meeting fellow fly fishers. Check out this video from 2019’s BGS.

SFF always has a great showing of casters, who practice together ahead of the competition.
